Composite costs more on day one and saves you the yearly treatment. Timber costs less and feels natural, but it needs looking after.
| Consideration | Composite | Timber |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly treatment | Not needed | Stain or oil every one to two years |
| Splinters | None | Possible as boards weather |
| Colour over time | Holds colour well | Silvers unless treated |
| Upfront cost | Higher | Lower |
| Feel underfoot | Smooth, consistent grain | Natural timber texture |
Both ranges come in 3.6m lengths and a sturdy 25mm thickness. The difference is in the core and the finish, so pick the one that suits how hard your deck works.

Most deck problems start below the boards. Get the frame and the ground right, and the surface looks after itself.
Mark out the deck with pegs and string. Allow for steps, doors and any drainage covers.
Joists usually sit at 400mm centres for composite boards. Check the maker’s own spacing.
Clear weeds, lay a membrane and set level footings. A sound base prevents bounce later.
Leave the expansion gaps the boards specify. Add trims, lighting and a pergola last.
